Williamsburg, KY- The second-ranked UC women's lacrosse extended their win streak on Saturday night with a blow-out win against Missouri Valley at the UC Lacrosse Complex. With a career-high nine goals,
Samantha Tullar led the team to a 23-5 win, improving the team's overall record to 7-0.
In addition to Tullar,
Bella Ricchiazzi added six goals and an assist to Cumberlands' offense, while
Emily Heim notched a pair of goals and a trio of assists. Defensively, five different Patriots recorded three ground balls each, leading the team to scoop 27 of the 32 loose balls.
Trinity Brown caused three of the Vikings' 16 turnovers, with five other Pats forcing turnovers as well.
Cumberlands mirrored the offensive efficiency they have displayed in the previous matches, and found the back of the net four times in the first five minutes. Ricchiazzi got the Patriots started, while Tullar netted two and
Florence Andrieu netted one. The Vikings responded with a goal to halt the Patriots scoring run and cut their lead to 4-1 with 24:39 to play in the first half. A pair of quick goals made the score 6-1 as
Katie Brewer got on the board for UC and Tullar secured her seventh straight hat-trick this season. Missouri Valley scored again right off the draw, but UC responded with six straight goals to extend their lead to 12-2. Making a pair of huge saves to keep that scoring run alive was
Emily Crump who stopped back-to-back shots on goals at the 7:41 mark. MVC and UC split the final four goals to set the score at 14-4 heading into the locker room.
The start of the second half saw three saves from Crump in the first two minutes, highlighted by two consecutive shots on goal in six seconds. Eventually, Cumberlands found their offensive momentum as Ricchiazzi and Brewer got the scoring started with a goal each to give Cumberlands a 16-4 advantage. After a goal from Tullar, MVC's Daisy Humsey score the Vikings' lone goal of the half putting the score at 17-5 with 21:07 remaining in regulation. Able to slow the offense down,
Stephanie Meyer, Heim, and Tullar scored UC's next three goals, before Tullar connected with
Rachel Leigh for the Pats 21-5 lead. Tullar and Ricchiazzi finished the game the way they started it, netting goals to bring Cumberlands final score to 23-5.
Tullar scored nine goals in the game, tying her previous career-high of goals per game set against Siena Heights in the NAIA National Tournament on May 9
th, 2018. Crump also had a career night as she made 17 saves, the most saves in one game since making 21 stops against Tennessee Wesleyan on March 28
th, 2018.
Cumberlands will return to the field Tuesday, March 10, for a marquee matchup against the third-ranked Benedictine Ravens. Patriots will look to avenge the loss to the Ravens that cut the NAIA Tournament run short in 2019. The draw will go up at 6pm with live stats available
