Fort Wayne, IN –
Summer Travis once again led the Patriots at the Warrior Invitational on Friday, coming away with a pair of top-three finishes.
For the second time this season, Travis placed top-three at Indiana Tech in both of her appearances in the throwing events. She led out of the gate in shot put, noting the best first attempt in the second flight at 11.25 meters. She improved the mark to 11.71 meters on her third throw to come away with the second-place finish.
Travis followed up with third in weight throw, notching a 14.23 mark to get into the finals flight. She later tossed 14.37 meters in her final throw of the day in the event for the bronze finish.
On the track,
Lisa Voyles posted the best performance for the Patriots with a B-standard time in the mile. Her time of 5:10.77 is a new career best for the sophomore, landing her fifth place overall. In her debut in the event for the 2021 season, the finish will likely boost her into the top-eight for the event in the NAIA.
Cora Stevens paced similar to her last showing at the Turnstone Center in Fort Wayne. In the 600 meters, she silvered after crossing the line at 1:42.91. The time is shy of a second slower than her last appearance there at the Strive for Greatness Invitational earlier this season.
The Patriots featured a full crew in the 60-meter dash;
Kathryn Hunter led Cumberlands in the event with an 8.01-second finish down the stretch, placing 10th.
Ayani Hison clocked 8.38 seconds while Des Linville clocked 8.87 seconds.
Hunter followed her straight-sprint performance with her second top-ten finish of the night. In the 200 meters, she noted a season best time of 26.33 seconds.
With hurdles on the track, Hailey Martin charged down 60 meters for a 10.34-second finish.
Following up Travis' performances,
Delores Stevenson came up short from personal bests with a 9.91-meter toss in shot put and a 11.89-meter mark in weight throw.
Lydia Le'Det inched close to a new best mark, noting 9.76 meters in the triple jump.
The Patriots will return to the Turnstone Center for the Indiana Tech Classic on February 13. Before then, they head back to Indiana Wesleyan for the Midwest Classic next Friday and Saturday.
