Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | UC Athletics

Career Day for Drewery Leads Patriots Past Bears, 4-0

Williamsburg, KY – The third Mid-South Conference win in a row for the UC men's soccer team was highlighted by historic milestones for senior captain, Joel Drewery. In the 62rd minute against Pikeville, the Hull, England native had the ball on the right flank and crossed it to Rodrigo Riveros in the box. Riveros sent the ball into the back of the net giving UC not only the 4-0 lead, but also marking Drewery's 36th career assist, the most all-time in program history.

Drewery also earned his 84th cap in a Patriot uniform, giving him the most appearances by any UC player.

The goal from Riveros was one of four for Cumberlands in the game where they shutout Pikeville for the 4-0 victory. Riveros tallied one other goal to earn a brace while Drewery and Gabriel Figurski Vieira earned goals of their own.

Riveros got things started in the 21st minute of play. He was cutting between defenders in the box, when UPike committed the foul against him for the penalty kick opportunity. The freshman stepped to the spot and sent the ball to the right side of the goal, putting UC up 1-0.

Just 12 minutes later and UC pushed their advantage to 2-0. Liam Healey sent the ball into the box from the right corner flag right to Figurski Vieira. Jumping into the air, Figurski Vieira headed the ball to the left side netting, for the team's second goal of the game and his second of the season.

Cumberlands fired off 13 shots, but Pikeville had just two shots in the opening period, both of which were blocked by UC defenders, Healey and Joachim Blomsterberg.

The second half remained all Cumberlands who had 12 shots, seven of which were on frame. Drewery added to his assist with a goal in the 52nd minute. He had high pressure on UPike and stepped in front of a defender to intercept the pass. Drewery gained possession and then shot the ball, to pick up his first goal of the season.

In the 4-0 win, Pikeville was held to zero shots on goal and just six total shots, the fewest shots against Cumberlands this season. The shutout marks the team's and Nathan Hart's fourth of the season and gives them back-to-back shutouts.
