Box Score Williamsburg, KY- A dominant performance from the Patriots women's soccer team lead them to earn their third straight Mid-South Conference win.
Matija Yocum tallied her first career goal to help Cumberlands beat Pikeville 3-0.
Every category except for saves was led by UC. The Patriots outshot the Bears 35-1. 14 of those shots taken by the Patriots were on goal, while the Bears only managed one shot on goal. Cumberlands tallied six corner kicks to Pikeville's zero.
Georgia Martell and Savannah Prigmore combined for the shutout, which is the team's seventh of the season. The backline for UC did a great job in today's match, with the lone shot for the Bears coming off of a free kick after a foul. The shot by the Bears gave Prigmore her first save on the year.
Yocum opened up the scoring during ninth minute of the match.
Jenna Rockwell sent a long pass up the field to a wide open
Sarah Hammerstone. Hammerstone had a shot but decided to play unselfish soccer and passed the ball off to Yocum so she could tally her first goal of her career and give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
Nine minutes later Cumberlands had a steady possession and started their offense from their backline.
Rylee Hardley sent a pass up to Hammerstone, who used one touch to pass the ball off to
Madison Mirandilla. Mirandilla settled the ball at her feet and lofted a shot over the head of the goalie and bounced into the net to give UC a 2-0 lead. The goal is Mirandilla's second of the season.
The Patriots took the 2-0 advantage into halftime having 17 shots to Pikeville's zero. Cumberlands would score their first goal of the second half in the 48' of action.
Alba Lorca sent a pass wide left to
Jillian Zurborg. Zurborg managed to cross the ball into the goalie box but it seemed to be deflected by a Pikeville defender.
Jayden Boelter was right next to the defender and was able to get a touch on the deflection and send it into the back of the net to give UC a 3-0 lead. Boelter's goal is her 11
th on the season in just 13 matches.
Hammerstone tallied two assists in the match to help her double her season total. Hardley tallied her first assist of the season, while Rockwell added her second to her stat line.
The Patriots will remain in Williamsburg this weekend as they are set to take on Shawnee State on Friday at the UC Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 PM and the match can be live streamed
