Owensboro, KY - In a rematch of the Mid-South Conference tournament championships, Cumberlands women's tennis finished as the MSC Fall Invite runner-up after falling to Lindsey Wilson 5-2 in the championship match Saturday afternoon.
Doubles began with one of the premier matches of the tournament, featuring three 2020-21 All-Americans (
Tomomi Nagao, Lucia Mora, and Alexandra Parra). The Blue Raider tandem ended up getting the better of the big matchup as Lindsey Wilson grabbed the win by a final of 6-3.
UC battled back to even up doubles play in the second match as
Tessa Gray and
Meiri Okuwaki got the victory over Yuno Oe and Salome Sposetti in a hard fought 6-5 win, however Lindsey Wilson #3 doubles to win the doubles point and grab the 1-0 lead.
Catherine Rae evened the score at 1-1 as she took down Yumo Oe at #5 singles. Rae found herself in a back-and-forth affair in the first set as she won a tight 6-4 contest, before, settling into a groove and controlling the second set 6-0.
The Blue Raiders counter with three straight wins at #3, #4, and #6 singles to take the match 4-1. Â
#1 singles featured All-Americans  Nagao and Alexandra Parra. Nagao won the first set 6-4 and was leading 4-2 in the second set when play was halted leaving the match as unfinished.
The Patriots will regroup and set their sights on the spring schedule, which will kickoff in February. Cumberlands will enter the spring with a 1-1 overall record.
