Lexington, KY - The Patriots earned two singles points but it wasn't enough as they fell to sixth-ranked SCAD-Savannah 4-2 Thursday afternoon at the NAIA Indoor Championship. 

The #1 doubles matchup proved to be a premier one, featuring three 2021 All-Americans in Tomomi Nagao for UC and Yue Yu and Priya Sukkanha for the Bees. SCAD's tandem ended up getting the better of the big matchup, winning 6-4 before securing the 1-0 lead with a win in #2 doubles. 

SCAD made it a 3-0 lead after wins at #2 and #3 singles before the Patriots began to make a stand. 

UC grabbed their first win of the day with a win at #6 with Hana Shimeno defeating Britain Botsford. Shimeno was in complete control during her match, making quick work of her counterpart and wining in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 cutting the score to 3-1. 

The Patriots cut into the lead again as Mikaela Fros rallied to win at #5 singles. Fros dropped the first set, but battled back to claim the second set 6-2 and force a decisive fifth set. Fros was in control of the third set as she took the set 6-1 and the match cutting the deficit to 3-2. 

At #4 singles, Johanna Beckmann dropped the first set, however, she battled to a 7-5 win in the second to force the third set. She ultimately dropped a tough-fought deciding third set 6-3, giving the Bees the 4-2 final. 

Nagao found herself with a tough matchup at #1 singles as she faced off against the 18th-ranked singles player, Priya Sukkanha. Nagao started off strong with a 6-3 win in the first set but Sukkanha flipped the score on her to even things up. Things would not go any further than that, though, as the match had been clinched. 

Cumberlands will look to rebound in their next contest as they're set to continue to compete in the NAIA National Indoor Invitational tomorrow. The Patriots will compete in the consolation bracket against Holy Cross with that match starting at 8:00 a.m. Friday morning
