Williamsburg, KY – Bouncing back in serious fashion after Saturday's loss, the UC women's volleyball team dominated the Pikeville Bears to take their first shutout of the season with a 3-0 win on Monday night at the UC Volleyball Complex. With the win, the Patriots move to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in MSC play.

Following a service error by the Patriots which made the score 17-16, with Cumberlands still in the lead, UC would embark on an 8-0 run, which included four service aces by Grava, to take the first set at 25-16 and go up 1-0 for the match.

Picking up where they left off in the first set, the Patriots started the second with a 4-0 run highlighted by back-to-back kills by Chapman to take the early lead. After a service error by the Bears, Emily Prewitt would be up next for Cumberlands as she slammed a kill through Pikeville's defense to put UC up at 9-3. The Patriots would continue to keep the pressure on the Bears as they would go on yet another big 8-1 run spearheaded by a Jackson kill to keep UC out front at 20-7. To end the second set in style, Prewitt would snag another kill to put away the Bears at 25-12, and give Cumberlands the 2-0 advantage heading into the third set.

The third and final set of the game could not have started any better for the Patriots as they got red-hot with a 12-0 run featured by a Schwarz assist for a Jackson kill. UC continued to keep their foot on the gas as Prewitt hammered a kill followed by a service ace from Sobocinski to extend the Patriots lead to 23-9. Schwarz and Jackson were able to seal the game for Cumberlands as they had another assist for the kill connection to let UC take the set at 25-10, and ultimately, the match at 3-0.
