Campbellsville, KY – With strong performances throughout singles and doubles play, the #24 Patriots were able to grab the 5-2 win against the (RV) Campbellsville University Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. Following the victory, UC improves to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in MSC play.
With their eighth consecutive win at #1 doubles, the duo of Tomomi Nagao and Mikaela Fros continue their eight-match win streak as they defeated Emily Carbo and Itzel Hernandez at 6-2. Tessa Gray and Laura Marie would resume the great play, while also snagging the doubles point for UC, as they won their #2 doubles match versus Rebeca Scurt and Madison Hill at 6-4. With the doubles point already in-hand, Cumberlands would drop the #3 doubles match, but still, maintain the 1-0 match lead going into singles play.
Nagao started things off well for the Patriots in the #1 singles spot as she posted a two-set win at 6-4, 6-3 against Brenda Aguilar, and gave UC the 2-0 advantage. In the #2 singles spot, Fros continues to improve for Cumberlands as she defeated Itzel Hernandez 6-2, 6-3, and extended the Patriots match lead to 3-0. Ultimately securing the match at 4-0 for UC was Marie, as she was able to beat Angela Mendoza in a three-set battle at 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Unfortunately, Cumberlands went on to lose both the #5 and #6 singles matches, but still maintained the match lead with the score sitting at 4-2. Ending the match on a positive note for UC was Mitani, who won her #6 singles match in dominant fashion with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Blaeke Mitchell. With the doubles point and four singles wins, the Patriots were able to walk away with the 5-2 match win over the Tigers.
The Patriots will return to the court on Saturday, March 13 to take on Bethel University in McKenzie, TN. First serve is set for 2:00 PM.
