McKenzie, TN – The 24th-ranked UC women's tennis saw strong singles play coupled with spectacular doubles play in the 7-0 win over MSC newcomer Bethel Saturday afternoon. The win marked the third sweep of the season for the Patriots, who improves to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in MSC play.
UC got the day started with strong doubles play in all three matches. The #13-ranked doubles team of
Tomomi Nagao and
Mikaela Fros as well as UC's #3 doubles duo of
Johanna Beckmann and
Satsuki Mitani both posted 6-0 wins to clinch the doubles point for the Patriots. At #2 doubles the tandem of
Tessa Gray and Laura Maria improve to 7-0 on the season after a 6-1 win.
Cumberlands carried their strong play into singles as Beckmann and Mitani both notched 6-0, 6-0 wins at #5 and #6 singles, respectfully, to extend the lead to 3-0. For Mitani it was her fifth straight win as she improves to 6-2 on the season.
Lauria Marie clinched the match for the Patriots with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Anabella Baralt at #3 singles. Nagao followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #1 singles to extend UC's lead to 5-0. Marie and Nagao are tied for the team longest win streak at six straight matches.
Fros extended her win streak to five straight after a 6-3, 6- win at #2 doubles. At #4 singles
Hana Shimeno recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lexi Daniels to close out the match for the 7-0 final.
Cumberlands returned to action tonight as they take on Freed-Hardeman.
