Box Score

Williamsburg, KY – The UC women's volleyball dropped their match 0-3 (21-25, 18-25, 19-25) against fellow MSC opponent, Campbellsville University, on Thursday night. Following the loss, the Patriots fall to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in MSC play.

For the third match in a row, Lily Chapman led all UC hitters with 16 kills and 11 digs, while Ashley Sobocinski put up seven kills to accompany her two digs. Leading in assists for the match, as she has all season for UC, was Savanah Schwarz who tallied 30 with 16 digs.

Cumberlands hopped out to a great start with a 3-1 run sparked by the typical Schwarz assist for the Chapman kill. Allyson Grava would continue the Patriots success with a service ace that extended the UC lead to 9-6. However, the Tigers wouldn't lie down as they posted a 5-0 run to overtake the lead at 9-11. The two teams would continue to trade points until Cumberlands was able to score back-to-back points with a Chapman kill and a Schwarz service ace the cut the Tigers lead to just 13-15. The battle would continue late into the set until Emily Prewitt was able to snag back-to-back kills to minimize the Tigers lead to just 24-20. Although, it was not enough as two possessions later, Sutton Mason of Campbellsville, ended the first set with a kill to put the score at 25-21, and have UC trailing in the match at 0-1.

The Patriots would go on to drop the second set 18-25 and go down 0-2 on the match, but continued the fight into the third set. Similar to the first set, UC once again started the set out well with a 5-2 run highlighted by kills from Chapman and Danielle Jackson. Cumberlands would resume their hot third set start as Sobocinski hammered a kill through the Tigers defense to extend the Patriots lead to 9-6. The UC offense seemed to settle in later into the third set as they posted yet another 3-0 run spearheaded by a Chapman kill that kept the Cumberlands advantage at 16-12. Nevertheless, the Tigers would roar back and overtake the lead when they went on a 9-0 run to put the score at 21-16 with UC trailing. The rest of the third set was all Campbellsville as they ended the match with three consecutive points, and were able to take the match at 3-0.

The Patriots will return to the court on Friday, March 12 to take on Bethel University in Williamsburg, KY. First serve is set for 6:00 PM.
