McKenzie, TN – The 14th-ranked UC men's tennis recorded their fifth shutout of the season after defeating MSC newcomer Bethel 7-0 Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Patriots improve to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in MSC play, while the Wildcats move to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
In doubles play, the sixth-ranked doubles tandem of
Martin Barbier and
Eric Banoub extend their win streak to eight straight after defeated Joao Andre and Renato Gravina 6-2 at #1 doubles. Cumberlands secured the doubles point as
Martin Muller and
Robert Wu Hung-Ju posted a 6-0 win at #3 doubles to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead heading into singles. It was the fourth straight win for the duo.
Cumberlands strong play continued into singles, where the Patriots won five of the six matches in straight sets.
Martin Muller extended UC's lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #2 singles. Banoub followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 singles, while Mattis le Montagner posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at #4 singles to clinch the match for the Patriots. For le Montagner it was his ninth straight win as he remains one of three Patriots that are undefeated on the season.
With the match already in hand,
Luis Montull secured a 6-0, 7-5 win at #3 singles to extend it to 5-0. The other two unbeaten players, Wu Hung-Ju and Barbier kept their undefeated streaks alive to close out the match. Wu Hung-Ju defeated Jeffrey Lee 6-2, 6-0 at #6 singles, while Barbier posted a three set win at #1 singles to secure the 7-0 final.
Cumberlands returned to action tonight as they take on Freed-Hardeman.
