UC Women's Tennis Sweeps Tigers Through Singles And Doubles Play With 7-0 Shutout

Williamsburg, KY – With only dropping a single set through all of singles and doubles play, the #22 UC women's tennis team was able to bounce back from last week's loss as they posted a dominant 7-0 win against Georgetown College on Wednesday afternoon. Following the win, the Patriots improve to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Cumberlands started the day out hot as they posted three straight wins in doubles, which allowed them to take the doubles point and the 1-0 lead. In #1 doubles spot, Tomomi Nagao and Mikaela Fros snagged a tough win as they beat Maci Ferguson and Katie Swanson at 6-4. To finish the doubles sweep, Johanna Beckmann and Satusuki Mitani defeated Bailey Thompson and Alexandra Gregory at 6-2 in the #2 doubles spot, while Tessa Gray and Laura Marie ran through Samantha Spady and Noel Bielski at 6-1.

UC continued their dominance over the Tigers going into singles play as Nagao and Fros were both able to take down their opponents in just two sets with their scores sitting at 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0, and allowed the Patriots to go up 3-0 on the match. Ultimately deciding the match for Cumberlands was Marie in the #3 singles spot as she won a three-set battle against Swanson, and put UC up 4-0. Shimeno, Beckmann, and Mitani were able to complete the Cumberlands shutout as they all notched two-set victories in the #4, #5, and #6 singles spots over Mariah Medina, Thompson, and Bielski respectively. With the doubles point and a singles sweep in-hand, UC was able to walk away with the 7-0 win over the Tigers.

The Patriots will return to the court for their matchup against Shawnee State in Williamsburg, KY on Saturday, March 27 with the first serve happening at noon.
