Williamsburg, KY – The #22 UC women's tennis team was able to post their sixth shutout of the year as they notched a dominant 7-0 win over Thomas More on Sunday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. Following the win, the Patriots move to 11-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 in MSC play.
Cumberlands started the day out hot as they were able to sweep all of double's play. Tomomi Nagao and Mikaela Fros continued their dominant streak at #1 doubles as they defeated Kimberly Sabga and Cassie Saner with a score of 6-1. UC would resume their stellar play throughout the #2 and #3 doubles matches as Tessa Gray and Laura Marie won their match 6-0 and Johanna Beckmann and Satsuki Mitani snagged a win at 6-1 respectively.
With the early 1-0 lead as a result of the doubles sweep, the Patriots carried over the momentum into all of singles play. In the #1 singles spot, Nagao ran away with her match as she defeated Kimberly Sabga 6-0, 6-0 that gave Cumberlands the 2-0 match lead. Fros and Marie maintained the UC dominance over the Saints as they won their #2 and #3 singles matches with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-3, which ultimately decided the match with the score sitting at 4-0. Hana Shimeno, Beckmann, and Mitani were able to finish the Patriots sweep over the Saints with their two-set victories at the #4, #5, and #6 singles spots, and allowed Cumberlands to walk away with the 7-0 win.
The Patriots will return to the court for their matchup against Lindsey Wilson at the UC Tennis Complex on Wednesday, March 31 at 1:00 PM.
