UC Men's Tennis Stays Perfect In MSC Play With 7-0 Shutout Against The Tigers

Williamsburg, KY – The #14 Patriots men's tennis team dominated the Tigers with a doubles and singles sweep at 7-0 on Thursday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. Following the win, Cumberlands moves to 12-1 overall and continues to stay perfect at 5-0 in MSC play.

As they have throughout conference play this season, the Patriots were dominant in doubles play. Finishing first on the day was Martin Muller and Robert Wu Hung-Ju in #3 doubles macth as they ran through Jackson Jacobi and Kobie Wessling at 6-0. Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub were next up for UC in the #1 doubles spot as they also dominated Cole Wilson and Hunter Nosek at 6-1, which ultimately gave Cumberlands the doubles point. Luis Montull and Mattis Le Montagner were the ones to finish out doubles at the #2 spot as they resumed the stellar play for the Patriots with a commanding 6-2 win over Jared Towell and Logan Smallwood. With the doubles sweep in-hand, UC grabbed the early 1-0 lead over the Tigers.

With all six singles matches only going to two sets Cumberlands never had to leave the driver's seat throughout all of singles play. Wu Hung-Ju sparked the match sweep as he was able to notch a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Wessling in the #6 singles spot, which put the Patriots up at 2-0. Following in his footsteps was Montagner in the #4 singles spot as he also handily defeated Jacobi at 6-0, 6-1, and gave Cumberlands the 3-0 lead. Banoub was the one to snag the match win at 4-0 for Cumberlands as he was able to take down Towell in the #5 singles spot with scores of 6-1, 6-1. Montull, Muller, and Barbier completed the 7-0 shutout for UC as they all went on to post two-set wins in the #3, #2, and #1 singles spots, and allowed the Patriots to walk away with the win.  

The Patriots will return to the court for their matchup against #9 Lindsey Wilson at the UC Tennis Complex on Wednesday, March 31 at 1:00 PM.
