Williamsburg, KY – Despite hard-fought battles throughout all of singles and doubles play, the #14 UC men's tennis team dropped their match against #10 Lindsey Wilson 4-3 on Thursday evening. Following the loss, the men's team is now 12-2 overall and 5-1 in MSC play.
To start the day off, Luis Montull and Mattis Le Montagner were able to take down Anatolly Voloshyn and Jan Sihavy at 6-3 to take the #2 doubles match. With only their third loss of the season at #1 doubles, Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub fell at 4-6. To decide the doubles point for the match was Martin Muller and Robert Wu Hung-Ju as they came up short at 7-5, which allowed the Blue Raiders to take the 1-0 lead for the match.
Unfortunately, Cumberlands would drop the #3 and #2 singles matches to start out, but Barbier kept UC alive in the #1 singles spot with his three-set win against #38 Aleksa Ciric at 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
With the match score sitting precariously at 3-1, Banoub would be up next for the Patriots in the #5 singles, but fell in his match at 3-6, 5-7, which ultimately allowed the Blue Raiders to win the day at 4-1. However, Montagner and Wu Hung-Ju did not go down without a fight as they both posted three-set wins against #46 Tiago Almeida and Anatolly Voloshyn at 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 and 7-5, 5-7, 10-5 respectively. With the match score sitting at 4-3, the Blue Raiders were able to walk away with the win.
The Patriots will return to the court for their matchup against Pikeville at the UC Tennis Complex on Saturday, April 3 at 12:00 PM.
