Lexington, KY – After not playing on Thursday against Grace College, the #24 UC women's tennis team showed no signs of rust as they came out firing on all-cylinders sweeping all of doubles play and only dropping one singles match with a 6-1 win against Indiana University East on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Patriots move to 5-1 on the year overall.

Starting off doubles play for UC was the #13 tandem in the nation in Tomomi Nagao and Mikaela Fros at #1 doubles as they beat Nora Ribeiro and Eva Caballero 6-2. In the #2 doubles spot, Johanna Beckmann and Satsuki Mitani defeated Camila Caballero and Linda Marino at 7-5, while Tessa Gray and Laura Marie finished the doubles sweep at the #3 spot with their win against Ashyln Hubbard and Amonette Theron at 6-2. With all three doubles matches won, the Patriots were able to hop out to a quick 1-0 lead.

Continuing their success from doubles play, Nagao and Fros both dominated the #1 and #2 singles matches posting victories against C. Caballero and Ribeiro at 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 to take the early 3-0 lead. Ultimately securing the match at 4-0 for Cumberlands was Marie, as she defeated E. Caballero in just two sets at 6-4, 6-4. UC would go on to drop the #5 singles match but picked up the slack at #6 singles with Mitani putting the hammer down against Theron at 6-1, 6-2. With the doubles sweep and five singles wins, Cumberlands was able to walk away with the 6-1 win.

The women's team will return to the court on Sunday, March 7 as they will face Marian University. The match will take place at the UC Tennis Complex with the first serve taking place at 1:00 PM.
