Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Patriots Utilized Balance Scoring in Road Win over Brenau

Gainesville, GA – The second-ranked UC women's lacrosse team had 11 different Patriots record goals in the 26-2 win over Brenau Tuesday afternoon at Bobby Gruhn Field.  With the win, the Patriots improved to 4-0 on the season, while the Golden Tigers move to 2-4 overall.

Bella Ricchiazzi led the way with four goals, three assists, and five ground balls, while four other Patriots tallied five points in the win.  Reegan Hensley netted a career-high five goals, while Emily Heim and Florence Andrieu finished with three goals and two assists each.

Defensively, Olivia McCarrell and Hannah McWhorter split time in the cage as each made a save on the day. Trinity Brown scooped a career-high seven draw controls in the game.

The Patriots got off to a fast start as Rachel Leigh netted an unassisted goal two minutes into the first half.  Back-to-back free position goals from Hensley extended the lead to 3-0.  After a Golden Tigers goal, UC rattled off ten straight goals to close out the first half.  During that stretch Ricchiazzi netted three goals, including her 100th career goal, which game at the 11:27 mark and made the game 10-1. The junior becomes the fifth Patriot to surpass that career milestone. To close out the first half, Brooke Ollerenshaw dished out her first career assist to Leigh and followed it up with her first collegiate goal to extend Cumberlands lead to 13-1 at the break.

Florence Andrieu netted two of the Patriots first four goals of the second half, extending Cumberlands lead to 17-1 with 24:20 remaining.  Two minutes later, Andrieu connected with Carolina Johnson for a goal.  Brown won the ensuing draw control, raced up field, and netted her second goal of the game, which is a new career-high.  The Patriots closed out the game with seven unanswered goals including consecutive goals from Hensley and Hannah Churchley and Kelly Webb each connecting for their first goal of the season.

The Patriots have now won 18 straight matches against AAC opponents dating back to the 2018 season.

Cumberlands will return to the field Saturday, March 13, when they host (RV) Siena Heights.  The game is set to start at 1 p.m. with live video available here and live stats available here.
