Chapman Notches Career-High In Kills But Not Enough as UC Volleyball Falls 3-1 To Running Eagles

Williamsburg, KY – Despite a career-high 24 kills from Lily Chapman, the UC volleyball team fell to Life University at 3-1 (23-25, 29-27, 25-27, 20-25) on Thursday night. Following the loss, the Patriots move to 8-12 overall and 6-9 in MSC play.

As previously stated, Chapman was able to garner a new career-high in kills at 24 as they accompanied her eight digs. Savanah Schwarz continues to lead the team in assists as she snagged 48 with 17 digs. Emily Prewitt also had a great night for the Patriots as she was able to notch 10 kills and two digs.

Unfortunately, Cumberlands dropped a hard-fought first set at 25-23 and would go down 1-0 on the match, but would get things going at the start of the second. After a series of a traded points, Prewitt would be the one to overtake the set lead at 6-5 with a kill of her own. Chapman resumed her great offensive night with a huge kill for the Patriots as she received an assist from Schwarz that extended the UC lead to 14-10. However, the Running Eagles would not lie down as they went on a 12-8 run to tie it up at 22-22. Just as they have all season for UC, Chapman and Prewitt would be forces from the outside as they were able to take set two at 29-27 with a pair of back-to-back kills that tied the match up at 1-1.

Similar to the first set, Cumberlands would fall in the third after putting up a great defensive fight at 27-25, which allowed the Running Eagles to overtake the match lead at 2-1. Nevertheless, the Patriots continued to grind at the start of the fourth with a kill from Kira Ervin that tied the score at 4-4. Later on in the set, three straight errors would hurt UC and allowed the Running Eagles to overtake the lead at 14-11. After a UC timeout, Cumberlands seemed to settle back into their offense once again as Chapman and Shelby Lackey hammered through kills to make the score 22-19 with the Patriots trailing. Although, it was not enough as the Running Eagles ended the fourth set with three consecutive points that made the score 25-20, and ended the match with a score of 3-1.

The Patriots will return to the court for their matchup against Martin Methodist at the UC Volleyball Complex on Saturday, April 3 at 2:00 PM.
