Williamsburg, KY – The #17 UC women's tennis was able to close out the regular season in fashion as they swept the Indiana University Kokomo Cougars at 7-0 on Sunday afternoon. Following the win, the Patriots move to 17-2 overall and a still perfect 10-0 in MSC play.
Cumberlands was unstoppable throughout doubles play as they took the #1, #2, and #3 matches with little difficulty, which had them up early at 1-0 for the match.
Johanna Beckmann and Satsuki Mitani were the first to finish for UC as they both shut out their competition in the #5 and #6 singles matches in just two sets, which extended the match lead for the Patriots to 3-0. Ultimately winning the match for Cumberlands at 4-0 was Laura Marie in the #3 singles spot as she ran through Reese Johnson at 6-3, 6-0. Tomomi Nagao and Hana Shimeno continued the dominant UC performance in the #1 and #4 spots as they also took down their opponents in two sets to widen the Patriots lead to 6-0. Ending the day and securing the sweep for Cumberlands at 7-0 was Mikaela Fros in the #2 as she notched a 6-1, 6-0 win over Larissa O'Rourke.
The Patriots return to the court on Thursday, April 15 to start the MSC Championships in Owensboro, KY.
