Owensboro, KY – The #14 UC men's tennis was able to post a 4-0 sweep over the University of the Pikeville Bears with the doubles point and three singles wins on Friday evening for the second round of the MSC Tournament. Following the win at Centre Court, the Patriots improve to 17-2 overall.
Martin Muller and Robert Wu Hung-Ju got things started off for the Patriots with their shutout #3 doubles win over Luis Gayoso and Fernando Proano. Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub were able to secure the doubles point with their 6-2 win over Juan Diego Alzate and Carlos Villamizar. With the #2 doubles match going unfinished, the Patriots headed into singles play with the 1-0 lead.
Banoub was the first to finish in singles play as he defeated Gayoso in two sets to put Cumberlands up at 2-0 on the match. Wu Hung-Ju continued his successful day for UC in the #6 spot as he took down Proano in two sets to extend the Patriots lead to 3-0. Luis Montull went on to ultimately win the match for Cumberlands as he ran through Villamizar in just two sets to let UC walk away with the 4-0 win over the Bears. The #1, #2, and #4 matches went unfinished as the Patriots has already clinched the match win at 4-0.
The Patriots return to the court tomorrow on Saturday, April 17 as they will face Cumberland University at 5:30 P.M. in Owensboro, KY.
