Hardeeville, SC – Dawson Coltran netted a career-high five goals to lead the (RV) UC men's lacrosse team to a 15-11 win over SCAD Friday afternoon at the SCAD Athletic Complex. With the win, the Patriots improve to 5-5 on the season and 4-2 in AAC play.
Coltran netted three of his five goals in the third quarter as UC pulled away from the Bees.
Christian Vanover added four goals, while
Dylan Crouch tallied two goals, and an assist. Goalie
Michael Toohey made 11 saves and force one turnover to earn the win, while
Jake Morgan scooped a team-high 10 ground balls and recorded five caused turnovers.
SCAD struck first, however, UC responded quickly with a Coltran goal to even the score at 1-1 five minutes into the first quarter. Back-to-back goals from
Anthony Gray and
Dylan Crouch put Cumberlands in front 3-1 with 4:49 remaining. In the closing seconds of the quarter,
Jake Morgan connected with Vanover for a goal to make it 4-2 in favor of the Patriots. Toohey made five of his 11 saves in the opening quarter to keep the Bees offense at bay.
Morgan got things started in the second quarter forcing a turnover, scooping the ground ball and on the ensuing possession

Jayvon Jamison won the next faceoff as UC took advantage with Crouch's second goal of the game to make it 6-2. The Bees notched four unanswered goals to even the score, before Crouch found Vanover for a goal with 11 seconds left to give UC a 7-6 edge at the break.
Coming out of the break, the Patriots made some offensive adjustments and Coltran took full advantage connecting for three straight goals of over the course of 13 minutes to extend UC's lead to 10-6. That last goal was assisted by
Dylan Crouch. SCAD added a goal in the final minute to cut the lead to 10-7 heading into the final period.
The Bees tallied three of the first four goals of the fourth quarter cutting Cumberlands lead to 11-10 with 10:03 remaining. UC took advantage of a pair of SCAD penalties as Vanover and Fogarty each converted on a man-up goal extending the Patriots lead to 13-10 with 4:03 remaining. Vanover and Coltran each added a goal to close out the game for the 15-11 final.
