Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Patriots Open MSC Tournament With 26-1 Win Over Webber

Williamsburg, KY – Five Patriots tallied at least six points in the game as the top-seed in the North Division UC women's lacrosse team defeated #4-seed in South Division Webber International 26-1 in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  With the win, the Patriots improve to 13-0 on the season and advance to the semifinals of the MSC tournament. 

Emily Heim led the way for Cumberlands tying the program record with seven assists, while recording a season-high ten points and tying her season-high with 10 draw controls.  Reegan Hensley and Bella Ricchiazzi each finished with five goals and seven points, while Stephanie Meyer and Florence Andrieu notched six points apiece.  For Hensley and Meyers it was a career-high in points, while Trinity Brown tallied three caused turnovers and three draw controls in the game. 

It was a back-and-forth battle for the first several minutes of the game until Heim broke the scoreless tie four minutes into game.  Rachel Leigh added a goal before Carolina Johnson connected with Hensley for a transition goal to extend the lead to 3-0.  Heim won ensuing draw control on the next possession Meyer and Ricchiazzi ran a give-and-go to extend the lead to 4-0.  Ricchiazzi and Henlsey each added another goal, before Olivia McCarrell made one of her five saves to keep the Warriors off the board. 

UC added six more goals in a four-minute span, including goals from Tasie Fox Andrieu, and Leigh extended the lead to 11-0.  Cumberlands won four consecutive draw controls as Heim dished out a pair of assists, while Brooke Ollerenshaw netted an unassisted goal to make it 15-0 with 8:58 remaining.  McCarrell added another save before Andrieu and Fox connected with the back of the cage giving UC a 17-0 edge at the break. 

The Patriots carried the momentum into the second half as Andrieu was the recipient of a pass from Ricchiazzi for a goal 29 seconds in.  Hensley sparked another three-goal run as UC continued their domination on the draw control making it 21-0 with 24:14 remaining.  The Heim-Andrieu connected hooked up twice midway through the half to making it 24-1.  Heim and Hensley each tallied another goal for the 26-1 final. 

Cumberlands will return to the field Friday, April 23, when they face seventh-ranked Life I n the quarterfinals of the MSC Tournament, which takes place at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  The game is set to start at 11 a.m. with live video available here and live stats available here.
