Foley, AL – The sixth seeded Patriots' historic season came to a close after losing 6-0 to the #3 Keiser in the NAIA Quarterfinals. This marks just the second loss of the season for UC who finishes with an 18-2 record.
The Seahawks are the defending NAIA National Champions and got out to an early lead against the Patriots. Despite UC pressing and getting forward in the opening minutes KU had a counterattack in the 4' that resulted in a 1v1 with goalkeeper
Laura Vogt. Keiser buried the chance and then doubled their lead in the 6' to go up 2-0 quickly.
Keiser had a corner kick in the 11' that they converted into a header goal for the 3-0 lead. The Patriots still stayed on the attack looking to get on the scoreboard.
Laura Navajas Marin fired a shot in the 35
th minute but it went just wide of the net. Keiser then got one more goal before half time to be up 4-0 at the break.
UC regrouped for the final 45 minutes sending in two shots within the first five minutes. First
Shara Randez sent in a shot from just outside the 18-yard box in the 46' minute but it went straight to Keiser's goalkeeper. A few minutes later the Seahawks' keeper was trying to clear the ball out and
Jayden Boelter stepped in front, blocking the ball towards the goal, but it rolled just wide.
UC outshot KU 5-4 in the final 25 minutes, but it was Keiser who converted their chances.
Selena Barnett fired off two of her team high three shots in that time frame, but both went over the crossbar. The Seahawks picked up two more goals to win 6-0 and end UC's season. Kesier advances to the NAIA Semifinals as one of th final four teams left in country.
The Patriots finished their 2020-21 campaign making it to the NAIA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history. The team also secured the program's first ever Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship earlier in the year. They recorded 12 shutouts on the season, marking the most in a single season for any UC women's soccer team.
