4/3/2021 8:39:00 PM

Oak Ridge, TN – Cumberlands women's track & field led the pack in most events at the Good Friday Challenge, finishing second as a team. Lauren McHan led the Patriots scoring efforts on the track with 18 points, Summer Travis led the entire squad with 30 points at the throwing ranges.

A week after an all-conference cross country honor, Mchan got back to work with a top finish in the 800 meters. The junior paced 2:27.85 across the finish line. Cumberlands went one-two in the event, Cora Stevens finishing close behind for second with a time of 2:29.24. UC continued to dominate the event taking six more points with Meredith Elstun, Taylor Warren and Kinsey Forgey finishing six-seven-eight.

Rachel Gallison led the field in the 5,000 meters to pick up her second top-finish this season. The senior runner paced 18:44.30 around the track.

Travis tripled up on top finishes, leading the shot put, hammer and discus fields. Most notably, on top of the lead finish, the senior thrower improved her career best mark by about three meters in hammer, finishing with a mark of 47.31 meters. In the other two events, she improved upon the measures tossed a week ago as well.

Stevenson also finished in the top six of the three throwing events, walking away with personal bests in each event. She improved upon her first outdoor shot put mark last week with a toss of 10.11 meters at the invite for third overall. She landed her hammer throw 33.40 meters out of the cage, a two meter improvement to help her claim second in the event.

Back on the track, Cumberlands impressed again in the 1,500 meters; five of the top eight finishers in the event represented the team from Williamsburg. McHan again led the UC pack, this time placing second but sporting a new personal best in the event. Her time of 4:56.26 was two seconds faster than her last best set at the Cumberlands Invitational in 2019.

Warren finished third in the 1,500 meters, her highest placement of her career in any event with a time of 5:10.89. Following Elstun in fifth, Forgey also recorded a new best by almost 10 seconds with the 5:16.03, sixth-place finish. Hannah Henage scored eighth for her first collegiate point in her first collegiate track meet.

Cumberlands got their first look at their 4x100 meter relay team at the invitational. The crew of Ayani Hison, Raegan Granville, Kathryn Hunter and Megan McMannon passed their way to a second-place finish, clocking 50.22 seconds around the lap.

Granville led the Patriots sprinters across the finish line in the 100-meter dash, placing third overall with a time of 12.92 seconds. On her heels in the first heat, Hunter followed in fourth clocking 13.00 seconds down the stretch. McMannon also scored as the seventh finisher with a time of 13.55 seconds on the straight.

McMannon added five more team points with her fourth-place finish in the 200 meters, rounding the curve in 28.22 seconds. Des Linville missed out on scoring in the 100 after finishing 10th but battled for eighth place with a time of 29.66 seconds. She beat out the next finisher by 0.01 seconds.

Lydia Le'Det landed in fourth with a measure of 9.53 meters in triple jump.

Cumberlands finished second overall against five other NAIA teams in attendance at Oak Ridge HS outside of Knoxville, TN. Tennessee Wesleyan won their hosted invitational with 184 points, Cumberlands finished right behind with 135. The full list of Cumberlands results at the meet can be viewed here.
