Lebanon, TN – Behind a doubles sweep and solid performances throughout singles play, the #14 UC men's tennis team took down #25 Cumberland University at 5-2 on Thursday evening. Following the win, the Patriots move to 15-2 overall and 8-1 in MSC play.
Similar to yesterday, Cumberlands dominated all of doubles play notching three consecutive wins to take the early 1-0 lead over the Phoenix.
Finishing first for UC in singles play was Mattis Le Montagner in the #4 spot as he took down Jackson Vaughn in two sets to put the Patriots up 2-0 for the match. Martin Barbier continued his dominant streak at the #1 spot with his own two-set win against Felipe Ferreira that extended the Cumberlands lead to 3-0. UC would go on to drop the #2 singles match, but Luis Montull ultimately secured the match at 4-1 for the Patriots as he defeated Hugues N'Goma at 6-4, 7-6. The Phoenix would go on to split the #5 and #6 singles matches with the Patriots, but UC was able to walk away with the 5-2 win.
The Patriots return to the court on Friday, April 9 to take on Martin Methodist at 1:00 P.M. in Pulaski, TN.
