Bowling Green, KY – The 202-21 Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship belongs to the Cumberlands Patriots. UC was slated to play Martin Methodist for the MSC Championship on April 10, but the Redhawks were forced to retire due to COVID-19 protocols.
The tournament title is the first in UC women's soccer program history. Previously, the team had made it to the Championship match three times, with the most recent in 2019.
The Patriots defeated Thomas More 5-0 in the quarterfinals and then went on to defeat, at the time, 14
th ranked Lindsey Wilson 4-1 in the semifinals for a spot in the title game. Cumberlands had been on a tear as of late, winning the last eight games, outscoring opponents 39-2 and blanking them six times.
Overall Cumberlands has posted a program best 16-1 overall record and 10-1 conference record. UC is currently ranked #6 in the NAIA for their highest ranking ever. Their season stats rank them nationally in multiple categories including third in total assists (66), third in shutouts (11), and tenth in goals (62).
UC garnered seven All-Conference players with
Shara Randez and
Laura Navajas Marin earning First Team and
Selena Barnett,
Jayden Boelter,
Ainhoa Camara,
Jenna Rockwell and
Laura Vogt named to Second Team.
Making it to the championship match had already solidified a spot in the NAIA Tournament for the Patriots. It was announced on April 7 that Cumberlands would be an opening round site from Aril 15-17. This marks back-to-back seasons the Patriots will make the NAIA tournament and their first time ever hosting. The opponents and seeding for UC will be announced on Monday, April 12 via the selection show at 12 pm ET. The selection show will be streamed on the NAIA's Facebook page found
