Cleveland, TN –
Lisa Voyles continues to hunt for her second national title after an impressive indoor campaign. In the 800 at Saturday's last chance qualifier, the Patriot moved further up the ladder with her NAIA A-Standard.
The Danville, KY native clocked 2:12.61 for the automatic bid to Gulf Shores, AL, two seconds faster than her previous best time. She moves to third overall in the NAIA for the event and 0.7 seconds from a UC record. Voyles placed second at the Lee University Last Chance, only behind a NCAA Division I runner of East Tennessee State.
Lauren McHan saw big improvement in her third appearance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, recording a B-cut. The senior improved by over 10 seconds since her first appearance at the MSC Championships, pacing 11:24.91 around the track. She became the second Patriot to qualify for the event this season after
Rachel Gallison, who posted a second faster at the conference meet.
This weekend, Gallison posted a career best in the 1,500 meters but still a small margin shy of national contention. She improved by three seconds from her previous best at the Running Eagles Open in mid-April to 4:49.67.
Kathryn Hunter improved in her final races of the season, officially ending her rookie campaign on a high note. She took her talents to the 100-meter dash, moving down the stretch at 12.25 seconds, a bump by 0.2 seconds. Later in the 200 meters, Hunter saw a half-second improvement to 25.56 seconds.
In her final throws appearance as a Patriot, senior
Summer Travis tossed 43.45 meters in her best hammer mark of the day. She finished in scoring position in fifth overall, initially landing a spot in the final flight with a toss of 42.94 meters in her first attempt of the afternoon.
Cora Stevens wrapped up her Patriots career on Saturday in the 400-meter hurdles. Placing 10th, she paced 1:09.07 around the lap.
The NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championship begins on May 26 in Gulf Shores, AL. The national office will soon release the finalized list of qualifiers for the meet.
