Box Score Barbourville, KY- The #8 ranked Patriots tallied two goals in the first half and five goals in the second half to help them defeat Union College 7-1 Wednesday night at Williamson Stadium in Barbourville, KY. The two first half goals came off the foot of
Alyson Barnes and
Madison Mirandilla. The goal is Barnes first of her young career. Mirandilla's goal is her first since August 27, 2018, when she scored twice against Bluefield College.
Cumberlands offense was off to a hot start early.
Alba Lorca fired the first shot in the third minute and UC never looked back. The Patriots would continue to get shots from
Jenna Rockwell and
Ryann Bryant before Barnes was able to find the back of the net in the sixth minute. Bryant was able to earn the assist off the goal. The Patriots continued to put pressure on the Bulldogs goalie, as
Ryann Bryant would take another shot on goal soon after they scored. In the seventh minute of play,
Madison Mirandilla was able to fire a shot past the goalie to give Cumberlands an early 2-0 lead. Union would later respond in the 40
th minute of the first half when a Bulldogs' attacker was able to slide a ball just past
Laura Vogt to cut UC's lead to 2-1.
The Patriots came out strong in the second half scoring two goals within the first ten minutes yet again. The first goal came off of a penalty shot by
Ainhoa Camara, after Union was given a hand ball in the box.
The second goal came off the foot of
Jayden Boelter after
Selena Barnett crossed a ball into the six-yard box. This is Boelter's second goal in as many games for the Patriots. In the 63
rd minute,
Jayden Boelter was able to find the back of the net again off of another great assist by
Selena Barnett. The fourth goal of the half came off the foot of
Olaya Blanco. This is the first goal of Blanco's young career as well. Senior
Jenna Rockwell put a lot of pressure on the Union defense late in the second half, and was finally able to find the back of the net in the 88
th minute. The pass came just outside the six-yard box from
Madison Mirandilla.
This marks the second straight game that UC's defense limited their opponents to single digit shots, while also only giving up one goal.
UC is set to travel down to Waleska, GA to face off against #23 Reinhardt in a top-25 match-up on Saturday, August 25. Kickoff is set for 7 PM and can be streamed
