Williamsburg, KY – UC takes down the Bears in a 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-20, 26-24).

The Patriots had a well-rounded attack, the attacks were led by Lily Chapman. Chapman notched 17 kills, seven digs, and three blocks. Emily Prewitt and Anna Blumeier both came away with six kills. Blumeier also came away with nine digs, while Prewitt had four blocks. Juliet Banks led the team in digs with 10. Lexi Lester led the passing game with 21 assists and Savanah Schwarz led the game in aces notching three of them.

Chapman got the day started for UC, getting back-to-back kills and a block. Prewitt added to the lead with a kill. Blumeier extended the lead to seven with two kills, 14-7. From there the Patriots went on an 11-4 run, featuring three kills from Chapman, one from each Shelby Lackey, Danielle Jackson, and Olivia Verdecchia. Verdecchia's kill ended the set 25-11.

Set two started with a 7-1 Patriots run. Chapman got the run started with a kill, Prewitt got the next kill, followed by another Chapman kill. Schwarz then put in an ace. Prewitt notched another kill followed by one from Blumeier. Banks then put in back-to-back aces to get the lead up to 13-4. The Bears tried going on a run but kills from Blumeier and Lackey broke it up. UC went on another run featuring four kills from Chapman and an ace from Allyson Grava. The Bears did go on a late run to close the gap 24-20, but a kill from Jackson ended the set.

The third set started off tight, with the Bears being able to have a 17-13 lead. The Patriots took advantage of a Bears error and notched back-to-back kills, one from Blumeier and the other from Verdecchia. The Bears extended the lead back up to four 21-17, prompting a UC timeout. Out of the timeout Jackson notched two kills. But a couple UC errors got the Bears to set point. The Patriots then turned it on, Chapman got back-to-back kills, Schwarz got back-to-back aces, and Verdecchia ended the set and the match with a kill.

The Patriots move to 10-5 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. UC is back on the road tomorrow Sunday September 26 as they take on Bethel at 2 pm. For live video click here. For live stats click here.
