Johnson City, TN- The UC men's golf team tallied their first win of the season at the East Tennessee Collegiate Tournament held at the Johnson City Country Club. The Patriots notched a two-round score of585 (+9) to finish just one stroke in front of Walters State CC who earned second place.
Teammates
Gustav Barden and
Jarryd Elliot led the way for the Cumberlands in their second tournament in the fall. Barden improved his first round score of 73 (+1) to 71 (-1) on day two earning him a share of fourth place at the tournament. The sophomore shot well on hole 13 at the Johnson City Country Club on both days as he only need 3 shots to reach the pin on the par four. The Karlstad, Varmland native added seven more birdies through 36 holes, while also clubbing a total 19 pars.
Barden shared the fourth place finish with teammate Elliot. The sophomore clubbed a two round score of 144 (E), with his best score coming in round one when he shot a 70 (-2). Elliot tallied nine birdies through 36 holes, and only needed 3 strokes to reach the pin on the 476 yard par 5. This is the second straight tournament that the Witbank, South Africa native has finished within the top-five for the Patriots.
Teammates
Juan Murube and Jaime Crispi both garnered a share of 11
th at the tournament after both golfers were able to improve from their day one scores on day two. Murube was able to tally two birdies on the front nine to finish with a 36 (E) on those holes. He also used just two strokes to reach the pinon hole 17 of the course to add another birdie to his card. Murube improves from his last tournament finish to help the Patriots capture the tournament title.
Crispi shot a two round score of 149 (+5) to earn a top-15 finish. On both days, the freshman only needed four strokes on the long par five to reach the pin. Crispi improved from is day one score and clubbed a 73 (+1) to record his best round on the season.
Imanol Camba also finished within the top-20 to help the Patriots earn the tournament title in Johnson City, TN. The Bilbao, Spain native clubbed a 77 (+5) on day two, to finish with a 36 hole score of 152 (+8). The junior tallied a total of five birdies and 19 pars to finish just one stroke above his last tournament score.
UC's win at the East Tennessee Collegiate is their first tournament win of the 2021-2022 season. This is the first time that the men's golf team has won the tournament hosted by Milligan College.
Cumberlands is set to travel to Georgetown, KY on October 11 and 12 to compete in the Georgetown College Fall Invitational.
