Madisonville, KY – The Patriots archery kicked off the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships recording eight top-three finishes across the recurve and barebow divisions Friday night at the West Kentucky Archery Complex. The barebow and recurve divisions shot a 600 round to qualify for the individual and head-to-head shootdowns.
The Patriots sweep the top three qualifying slots in the women's recurve division led by
Lidia Quezada, who carded a 535, hitting 23 ten's and 18 nine's on the round. The freshman posted the best individual round on the day shooting a 272 to open the tournament.
Ceridwyn Salyers notched the best second round finished with a 267 to climb into second place with a total score of 521. The Eaton, OH native notched 19 ten's, which was second most on the day.
Whitney Vandiver qualified third with a two round score of 504. The trio of Quezada, Salyers, and Vandiver also earned the top-seed in the women's team division Sunday afternoon.
Bailey Robinson and
Kimber Wheeler also qualified for the individual shootdowns after finishing sixth and seventh, respectfully.
Cumberlands also had a strong showing in men's recurve taking three of the top four qualifying spots.
Jacob Valentini led the charge producing the top two rounds in the division and earning the top-seed by 41 points. The senior carded a 276 in round one, which was the best round of the day, before following it up with a 272 for a qualifying score of 548 with 22 10's.
Robert Gillette posted a consistent performance throughout both rounds, including hitting 11 ten's and 16 nine's to finish at 499. That earned Gillette the third-seed in the head-to-head matchups.
Clay Weaver, who made his recurve debut, shot a 494 with 14 10's and 14 nine's to place fourth. The trio of Valentini, Gillette, and Weaver earned the top-seed in the men's recurve team rounds.
Tyler Woosley ran away from the field in the men's barebow competition taking the top-seed by 84 points. The Leitchfield, KY native recorded rounds of 262 and 241, the top two scoring rounds of the day, for a qualifying score of 503.
Elijah Crawford placed second with a two-round total of 419, while
Bradley Faulkner edged out
Jonathan Morris for fifth place as the duo carded a 238 and 234, respectively.
In the women's barebow division,
Katie Karr was the Patriots top qualifier tallying a 454 to place second. Kimberly Wheat finished sixth with a 371, while
Sierra Gray shot a 277 to place tenth overall.
The Patriots will return to the range Saturday for bowhunter and compound qualifications rounds as well as the mixed team rounds. Events are set to begin at 9 a.m. ET with live stats available
