Lexington, KY - The #16 women's tennis program swept Holy Cross, notching their first win of 2022. The Patriots rebounded with a 4-0 over the Saints in the consolation bracket of the NAIA Indoor Invite to move to 2-2 on the year. 

Tomomi Nagao and Mikaela Fros got things started off in doubles play at #1 with a quick 6-1 win over Helga Lopez and Anna Beer. Johanna Beckmann and Satsuki Mitani helped the Patriots seal the 1-0 advantage at #3 doubles with a 6-1 win as well. 

In singles play, Nagao and Lopez matched up at the #1 spot with Nagao finishing on top in that matchup. After taking the first set 6-1, Nagao finished the match with a 6-4 victory in the second set to give UC a 2-0 lead. 

Hana Shimeno made it 3-0 in favor of the Patriots at #6 singles with a straight sets win over the Saints Laura Tomal Egas 6-1, 6-1. Fros rounded out the day for UC with a win at #5 singles to help give Cumberlands the sweep. Fros battled in the first set, defeating Clara Ruediger 7-5 before making quick work of the opposition in the second and winning 6-2 to clinch the win and the match. 

Meiri Okuwaki, Catherine Rae, and Johanna Beckmann each saw their matches go unfinished but not without each Patriot winning the first set of their respective matches. 

UC will have one more match in the NAIA National Indoor Invitational tomorrow before returning home. The Patriots are slated to play #12 William Woods with the start time set for 1:00 p.m. in the consolation championship round.
