Bowling Green, KY- For the first time in his collegiate career,
William Ekeroth earns Mid-South Conference men's golfer of the week. So far, the freshman has competed in two invitationals and earned first place honors in each.
Ekeroth joined the team this year as a freshman out of Linkoping, Ostergotland. So far, he has competed in the Asbury Fall Invitational and the Bojangles TN Intercollegiate tournament. In his debut, the freshman tallied a combined score of 138 (-6) across two rounds of golf. In his first round of 18 as a Patriot, Ekeroth carded a 68 (-4) to help earn him first place honors in the AU Fall Invitational. He is the first freshman to have won a season opener under Head Coach
Aaron Watkins.
This past weekend, Cumberlands traveled to Knoxville, TN to compete in the Bojangles TN Intercollegiate invitational against 11 other teams. During the outing, Ekeroth led the way for the Patriots, earning himself a second place title.
The tournament consisted of three separate rounds of 18. Ekeroth carded a 70 (-2), 71 (-1) and 74 (+2) on each round. During the match he notched 11 birdies and one eagle. His combined score of 216(E) was just one stroke above the 1
st place winner, Trevor Bassett of Dalton State.
So far, the freshman has recorded a first and second place win, 20 birdies and four eagles across 5 rounds of 18 holes. Ekeroth is competing alongside his teammates in a match-play tournament October 10
th and 11
th in Loudon, TN at the Tennessee National Golf club.
