Pikeville, KY – Cumberlands added another sweep to their totals as they took down Pikeville 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-16).
Allyson Grava had a big performance as she notched her ninth double-double of the season.
Offensively, the Pats were led by Grava who tallied 13 kills along with 17 digs.
Anna Blumeier also put in nine kills, while
Shelby Lackey added six of her own.
Danielle Jackson came away with two aces and two blocks, both solo.
Emily Prewitt led the way in the middle notching three blocks.
Kendall Arnold led the passing game with 17 assists, and
Juliet Banks put in 14 digs.
The Patriots came out hot and scored the first five points of the match. After a Bears error, Grava notched the first kill of the game. Jackson and Prewitt followed with a block. A play later, the Pats got back-to-back kills by Prewitt and Blumeier. A few plays later, Grava notched another kill, then Jackson tallied a kill and an ace. Grava added another kill to take a 10-4 lead. After a Pikeville run that cut the gap to one 17-16, the Patriots scored three straight points. The first came by way of a Prewitt kill, then Grava notched back-to-back kills to make it 20-16. After a Pikeville timeout, the Bears had two errors and Lackey added a kill. A few more plays later, Lackey notched another kill to get set point and Grava notched an ace to take the set.
The second set started with some back-and-forth action, before the Pats went on an 8-1 run. The run had solo blocks from Prewitt and Lackey along with a block from Grava and Lackey. Also, during that run Grava notched two kills to make it a 12-7 set score. Following a Bears point, Grava added another kill off a pass from
Savanah Schwarz. Later in the set,
Jayce Braden would record her first career kill to put the Pats up 18-13. Prewitt followed with a kill and Jackson recorded a solo block on the next play to make it 20-13. Cumberlands would get two kills from each Prewitt and Lackey, then an ace from Jackson ended the set.
Cumberlands opened the third set with four straight points, those points came from two kills by Blumeier and two Bears errors. Two plays later, Blumeier added another kill to her total. After a Pikeville point, Grava added a kill to make it 6-2. Two plays later, Lackey would add a kill and
Kira Ervin followed with an ace. Then the Patriots would rattle off three straight points to force a Pikeville timeout. Later in the set, Prewitt would end the game with a kill, after both teams went back and forth.
Cumberlands will now return home for a senior night matchup on Saturday against Shawnee State at 1:30 pm.
