Williamsburg, KY – The Patriots move their record to 17-7, as the take down the Georgetown Tigers 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 23-25, 28-26). Both
Kendall Arnold and
Allyson Grava came away with double doubles.
The Pats were led by the duo of Grava and
Anna Blumeier who both ended the game with double digit kill totals. Grava notched 19 kills to go along with 12 digs, while Blumeier added 16 kills. Arnold led the Patriots passing game with 40 assists to go with her 10 digs.
Emily Prewitt had a big game at the net as she ended the game with seven blocks, while
Danielle Jackson notched five of her own.
Shelby Lackey also added four blocks with seven kills. Two other Patriots had double figure dig totals with
Juliet Banks leading the way with 19 digs, and
Lexi Lester coming away with 18 digs.
The first set started with a Tigers going up 3-0, but following an error, Arnold notched an ace. From there the Pats would take the lead after five more Georgetown errors. A few plays later, Jackson and Prewitt would come together for a block to put the Pats up 9-5. Georgetown then went on a small run to tie the set at 10-10. Then Grava notched her first kill of the game followed by a
Kira Ervin ace to put UC back in front. After some back-and-forth action, UC gained the momentum behind a Blumeier kill. A couple plays later Grava would get two kills to force a Tiger timeout after going up 21-17. After some errors Jackson notched an ace. Then a few more plays later Grava ended the set with a kill.
In the second set, UC gained the momentum after a tight beginning. Lackey put in a kill to give Cumberlands a 9-8 lead, from there the Patriots never looked back. Blumeier added a kill, then Jackson and Prewitt notched a block to take a 13-9 lead. A few plays later, Blumeier added another kill followed by a Grava kill a few more plays later. Two plays later, Prewitt and Lackey got a block and Ervin added another ace to make it 18-14. From there, back-to-back kills from Lackey and Blumeier put the Pats up 21-16. Following a Tigers timeout, Jackson and Blumeier added a pair of kills to get to set point, and Blumeier ended the set with a kill a play later.
The Tigers rebounded to take set three and kept it close in set four, but some timely kills late in the set from Blumeier, Grava, and Lackey ended the match in four. With the Patriots up by one 16-15, Grava notched a kill. Then after a Tigers point Lackey added a kill. The Tigers were able to tie the set at 19-19, before Blumeier notched a kill. After a solo block from Jackson, Grava added another kill to make it 22-19. Georgetown went on a late run to take the lead 25-24, before Lackey put in a kill to tie the set at 25. After a Patriots error, Grava notched a kill to tie the set at 26-26. After a Tigers error, Blumeier ended the set and the match with a kill.
Cumberlands will hit the road and head to Union for a Tri-Match against Kentucky Christian and Union on Friday October 21
st.
