Crestview Hills, KY – The (RV) Patriots dominated the entire match against the Saints and came away with the 1-0 victory. The win puts UC at 8-4-3 on the season with a 5-2-2 record conference play.
Once again the Pats outshot their opponents, this time 13-4 total and 5-1 with shots going on frame.
Six of UC's 13 shots came in the opening half with their very first one going into the net scoring their earliest goal of the season, coming in the fifth minute of the game.
Alejandro Gonzalez Salinas caused a turnover in the Saints' defensive end. He took one touch and slotted the pass to
Rodrigo Riveros inside the 18-yard box. Riveros gathered the ball and slid it into the left side of the net for teh 1-0 UC lead.
The score remained 1-0 heading into the second half, but UC almost doubled their lead a mere five minutes into the period.
Storm Hollensted had the ball just outside the goalbox. He fired a well struck ball that ricocheted off the cross bar, just inches from the Pats going up 2-0.
The Saints were looking for the equalizer and with fifteen minutes left in the game
Pablo Vazquez made his lone save in the game and it proved to be key. The Saints had possession and played the ball into the box. The cross met one of their attackers on the right side of the field. They fired a shot on the near side inside the six-yard box, but Vazquez made the point blank save.
The goal for Riveros is his fifth on the season and second in the last four games. Gonzales Salinas notched his fourth assist of the season, tying for the most on the team.
The Patriots have one regular season match remaining and it will take place at the UC Soccer Complex. Cumberlands will take on Pikeville on October 26 at 7PM ET.
