Williamsburg, KY – Cumberlands took on the Royals of Johnson University at Randy Vernon Court Tuesday evening. They took their third game of the season 77-59, only trailing once in the entirety of the game. UC saw a great effort from their bench, outscoring the opposing bench 21-2.
Jahi Hinson had his highest scoring game of the season Tuesday night. The senior netted 27 points, his third straight 20+ effort, and four rebounds.
Isaiah Payton was the second leading scorer of the game with 11. The Patriots out rebounded the Royals 41-30 as
Jadrian Flores grabbed 11 to go with his six points.
Lamar Harris Jr. made an impact on both sides of the ball as he tallied six points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three blocks.
UC scored the first points of the game off a Hinson jumper followed by a
J.J. Ramey layup. Payton added a free throw, Flores hit a layup, and Harris slammed one home to stretch the game to 9-6 after the first five minutes.
A 15-10 Johnson run gave the Royals a two point lead with 8:19 remaining This was the last time JU would have the lead, as UC ended the half scoring 20 points compared to their opponents nine. Back-to-back threes from Hinson and Payton got this run started. A pair of jumpers from
Austin Hall, including one as the halftime buzzer sounded gave the Pats the 39-29 lead after 20 minutes of play. Hall would finish with seven points, four rebounds, and a pair of assists.
Flores opened the second half hitting a free throw, paired with a Hinson three to give UC a fourteen point lead. The Royals didn't back down scoring 16 points while holding Cumberlands to six, cutting the lead to just four with 12:46 left to play.
UC responded with a pair of lay ins from
Kamari Kenemore and Ramey, extending the Pats lead back to eight, and they never looked back. Hinson would score 10 of the next 15 for UC, capped off by an and-one layup followed by a free throw.
Brady Bell hit a late three and drained a free throw while
Elijah Jefferson laid one in off the glass to give the Pats their 77
th point of the night. This would prove to be enough as Cumberlands took the game 77-59.
UC is set to play again on Friday, November 11
th in the Cumberlands Classic, hosted right here in Williamsburg. The Patriots will take on Alice Lloyd at 4 PM ET.
