Bowling Green, KY – Patriots fought hard against Lindsey Wilson but fell short 3-2 (25-19, 17-25, 23-25, 25-14, 12-15). The All-Conference Outside Hitting Duo of
Allyson Grava and
Anna Blumeier tallied a combined 49 kills.
Grava tallied a career-high of 28 kills, while Blumeier added another 21 kills. Grava also had a double-double while putting in 14 digs to go along with three blocks and an ace. Both
Shelby Lackey and
Danielle Jackson put in seven kills apiece. Jackson also added three blocks and two aces, while Lackey had five blocks. The setter
Kendall Arnold also had a double-double tallying 55 assists and 11 digs.
Juliet Banks had a team-high 27 digs, while
Kira Ervin and
Lexi Lester had 14 digs each.
The first set started with some back-and-forth action, UC gained a 10-8 lead off a Grava kill, and ran with it. Arnold put in a setter kill two plays later. A few plays later, Cumberlands went on a 6-0 run. Jackson got the run started with a kill, then Lackey and Grava came together for a block to take a 15-11 lead. Following a Lindsey Wilson timeout, Lackey and Prewitt notched a block. On the next play, Grava put in a kill and Jackson followed with an ace for a 19-11 lead. From there, the action went back and forth with UC taking the set.
The Blue Raiders rebounded to take set two and three. UC knew they had to take set four to force a set five. Set four opened with a Grava kill, followed by a Grava and Lackey block. After a few errors from both teams Lackey and Grava notched another block to take a 4-2 lead. Later in the set when the score was 10-10, the Pats went on a run. Grava put in back-to-back kills, Prewitt and Lackey then came together for a block that forced a LWC timeout. UC would continue their run a few plays later, starting with back-to-back kills from Grava to take a 17-13 lead. Blumeier then notched two kills. Following a LWC error, Grava put in an ace. On the next play, Lackey put in a kill. Two plays later, Blumeier put in back-to-back kills to force a set five.
Set five started with the Patriots taking a 2-1 lead to force a timeout. Those two points came from kills by Jackson and Lackey. After that timeout, the Blue Raiders scored two points which forced a Cumberlands timeout.
Emily Prewitt notched a kill and Grava followed with a kill to tie the set 4-4. From there LWC went on a run to take an 8-5. Grava and Lackey stopped the run with back-to-back kills. Lindsey Wilson continued to add points until they took the set and won the match.
The Patriots volleyball team finishes their season 22-9, with a 11-1 home record. The Pats had four All-Conference players and
Juliet Banks took home Defender of the Year.
