Marietta, GA – In the UC women's wrestling team's second tournament of the season, Eagle Madness, they placed five wrestlers in the top-six of their respective weight classes. Across 14 wrestlers, the team eared 32 wins with six falls and five tech falls.
MaQuoia Bernabe earned the highest placing on the team, placing second in the 191-weight class. In a round robin style bracket, Bernabe went 4-1, tallying three falls. She opened the tournament with a pin at just 31 seconds, her fastest pin of the day.Her next two wins also came from falls where she was blanking her opponents. 11
th ranked Bernabe earned her falls at 1:57 and 2:33 before having to face 12
th ranked (170 lbs) Katelyn Lewis from Brewton-Parker. Bernabe once again blanked her opponent, wining via decision, 6-0.
In
Nile Jernigan's first competition as Patriot she finished in third place in the 170-weight class. She posted a 3-1 record picking up two wins via tech falls. Her first victory of the day came from a fall, she was up 6-0 before pinning her opponent at 1:51. Jernigan's final two wins came from tech falls, where she outscored her opponents 25-4 combined. In those two matches she had two, four-point takedowns to help her solidify the wins.
After placing second a week ago,
Angelina Castaneda had another top finish, earning fifth place in the 101-weight class. She recorded a 4-2 record, losing her first match and then rattling off two consecutive wins. Castaneda kept the trend with blanking her two opponents for a combined 23-0. She won her final match to secure fifth place, from a forfeit.
Two Patriots earned sixth place in
Lena Taylor and
Erica Moore. Taylor went 1-3 in the 116-weight class picking up her one victory via fall at 2:09. Moore had a 2-3 record in the 155-weight class picking one up from an injury and the other via forfeit.
Staying in the top-ten of their weight class was
Courtney Pittman in the 123-weight class. She went 2-3, picking up two straight wins after her initial loss. Her first win was from a 12-2 tech fall and then she got a fall at 2:10.
Sydney Dizon also earned a win on the day, competing in the 130-weight class. She won via a 10-2 decision.
Cumberlands returns to the mats for the Missouri Valley Open. The tournament lasts two days beginning on November 18 in the Marshall, MO.
