Marshall, MO –
The UC women's wrestling team had three top finishers at the Missouri Valley Open. They finished with two fourth places and one third for another top team performance. Cumberlands had the best winning percentage of any team at the tournament going 37-16 across the two days.

For the second time this season, Jesse Kirby took home third place in the 191-weight class. After going 2-1 on day one, Kirby followed it with a 4-0 record on day two. In her first match of the day, Kirby tied her fastest pin from the opening day of the tournament at 58 seconds. She followed that up with a dominating match, winning from a 10-0 tech fall. In her next match, fourth ranked Kirby had to face off against 15th ranked Lessly Sandoval (Saint Mary). Kirby was up 6-0 on her opponent and at the final second of the opening period, Kirby put Sandoval on her back for the pin at 3:00. The win advanced her the third-place match where she had to take on, Jaycee Foeller (Central Methodist), who is tied with Kirby as the fourth ranked wrestler. Foeller got out to the lead up 2-0, but Kirby answered back with two points of her own. Again, Foeller scored two points, but Kirby proved to be up to the task answering back with two more points, this time getting Foeller on her back for the fall win at 2:55.

After going 3-1 on the first day of the tournament, Elizabeth Dosado went 4-1 to claim fourth place in the 101-weight class. She won her first match of the day with a fall at 1:45 then faced the #1, #3, #4 and #5 ranked wrestlers in the NAIA. Dosado, ranked #10 saw Emma Cochran (Grand View), ranked #5 in round six of the consolation bracket. Dosado, got out to a seven-point lead before Cochran any points. It became 7-4, in favor of Dosado and then Dosado pulled away, with six more points to win via a decision, 13-4. Dosado then faced #4 Esther Walker (Midland) in the seventh round, once again Dosado got out the lead first, 2-0. Walker pulled within one, but then Dosado earned six more points to go up 8-1. They exchanged two points each for a score of 10-3 to go into the second period. Walker scored first with two points, but Dosado was too much, closing out the match with eight more points to win with an 18-5 tech fall. In order to make it to the third-place match, Dosado next had to square off with #3 Alyssa Quezaire (Missouri Baptist). Quezaire got out to the lead on Dosado, 6-2 in the first period and then scored two more points to open the second period for a 10-2 advantage. However, the resiliency of Dosado prevailed and she earned a four-point takedown that transitioned into a pin at 5:02. The third place proved to be the toughest yet, putting Dosado up against top-ranked Ira Navarro (Providence). It was all Navarro in the first period, up 7-0, but once again Dosado fought back to get four points. However, that was all the points from either competitor, allowing Navarro to win third and Dosado to finish fourth.

Yesterday, Aliyah Yates went 3-1, dropping to the consolation bracket of the 136-weight class in the quarterfinals. Yates went 3-1 as well on day two, finishing in fourth place. All three of her wins came via tech falls, not allowing her opponents to score, 31-0. Yates wasted no time in her first match of the game, scoring five, two-point takedowns with over a minute left in the first period to advance on in the tournament. Next Yates once again dominated her match, getting all ten points for the 10-0 tech fall in the first period. With a spot in the third-place match on the line, Yates went out an early 6-0 lead in the first period and then scored four more points in the second period for the 10-0 tech win. In the third-place match, Yates faced a tough competitor and dropped the match 12-2 to earn fourth place.

In the 116-weight class, Alexis Medina followed up her 4-1 performance from day one, to go 1-1 on day two. She won her match in the consolation round five. Medina scored five points and then used her last takedown to get her opponent on her back for the fall at 1:37, her fastest of the tournament. Her next match, was back and forth, but her opponent, Hannah Hall (Central Methodist), ranked #2 barely edged out third ranked Medina with a 4-2 decision.
