Bowling Green, KY – The women's cross country team ran a great race to bring home their third straight Mid-South Conference Championship Friday afternoon. The team acquired multiple awards throughout the day as
Emily Bird won MSC Freshman of the Year, Coach Sowder was named MSC Coach of the Year, and six UC runners had All-Conference finishes.
MSC Coach of the Year Bradley Sowder talked about his team's performance today saying "We did what we came here to do. We're excited to bring home the trophy for the third year in a row!" This is Sowder's first year at the helm of the Pats, and he will continue to lead them as they head into the NAIA National Championships.
Emily Bird was the first Patriot to cross the finish line today, running a 19:05 time for second place overall. Bird talked about being named MSC Freshman of the Year saying "It means a lot to me. It shows that hard work can pay off and that you can do whatever you put your mind to." This marks the second year in a row a Patriot has been given this honor.
Joining her in the top-five was
Ashlyn Liddle who paced her 5k in 19:28.8 for fifth overall, and First-Team All-Conference honors. The third UC scorer at the championships was
Victoria Richardson, who placed eighth with a time of 19:54.1. Richardson's top-ten finish allowed her to be the third Patriots on the MSC First-Team.
Ashley Terry finished 15
th in Bowling Green today, the highest finish at the MSC Tournament of her career. The sophomore clocked a 20:24.9 and earned Second-Team All-Conference honors.
Lauren Sanderson rounded out the scorers for Cumberlands, placing 17
th after crossing the finish line in 20:35.9. Sanderson and
Nevaeh Warren, who finished 19
th with a time of 20:43.9, were also named to the MSC Second-Team. This marks the second time Sanderson has earned these honors.
Hannah Henage raced to a 31st place finish, running her 5k in 21:09.1, followed by
Chloe West who finished 33
rd in 21:16.3.
Morgan Lucason clocked a 21:34.5 for 39
th place while
Tara Todd,
Abriella Overholser, and
Kate Golden finished 45
th, 47
th, and 49
th. The trio paced times of 21:41.6, 21:46.8, and 21:48.4.
Ella Henage rounded out UC's runner on the day with a 55
th place finish in 22:04.9.
The Patriots scored 47 points on the day to continue their winning streak. Thomas More came in second, tallying 53 points while Campbellsville placed third with 93. Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland University rounded out the top five with 118 and 158 points respectively.
Cumberlands will make the trip down to Tallahassee, FL on November 18
th for the biggest meet of the year, the NAIA National Championships. This marks the second time UC has made this trip, as they competed in the NAIA Pre-Nationals event on the same course earlier this year.
