Williamsburg, KY – Kaylie Monday recorded her first career double-double while
Kassie Monday tied her career in assists as the (RV) Patriots defeated Indiana University East 102-64 Tuesday night on Randy Vernon Court. The win moves the Patriots to 5-0 on the season, making it the third time under Head Coach
Rick Reeves that UC has won at least five straight games to open the season.
Kaylie Monday made a career-high ten steals and 23 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds. Kassie Monday added 20 points and a season-high eight assists and four rebounds, while
Channing Lewis finished with 12 points and seven boards.
Victory Fredricks grabbed seven rebounds as
Whitney Caldwell dished out a career-high four assists in the win.
Cumberlands took control of the game from the opening tip with an 8-0 run that included four points by Kaylie Monday. Kassie Monday connected with
Destiny Haworth for a transition layup before converting one of her own to spark a 22-0 run that spanned just over four minutes.
Lakin Burke, Kaylie Monday, and Kassie Monday scored 20 of UC's 22 points on that run as UC totaled six steals over that span as well. IU East closed out the quarter on a 10-8 scoring run keeping the Patriots in front 36-10.
Mackenzie Babb opened the second quarter with a steal and bucket off an assist from Caldwell to put UC up 28. The two teams traded buckets before Lewis scored four straight Patriots points to make it 46-16 with 5:50 remaining. Two minutes later Kaylie Monday notched a steal and found Burke in transition for a layup to give UC a 50-20 edge with 3:03 remaining in the second quarter. The Red Wolves closed out the first half on a 9-2 run cutting the lead to 54-29 at the break.
The Patriots opened the third quarter on a 9-2 run that included four points from Lewis helping UC double up IU East 63-31. Kassie Monday dished out three straight assists two of which connected from long range extending the lead to 71-35. Kaylie Monday and Lewis both added tallied steals which resulted in Patriots points, before Fredrick grabbed an offensive rebound and put back making it 78-35 in favor of Cumberlands. Kaylie Monday added three more steals in the quarter as UC took an 80-39 edge into the fourth.
IU East battled back with an 11-2 run to open the fourth quarter cutting the lead to 82-50 with 7:25 remaining.

Jaiden Cox netted five unanswered points as part of a 9-0 response. The two teams continued to trade baskets over the next several minutes as Caldwell found Kendricks in the corner for a three-pointer putting UC in front 100-59 with 2:34 remaining. Just over a minute later, Kaylie Monday tallied her ten steal of the game to complete the double-double as the Patriots held on for the 102-64 final.
This marks the first time since the 1999-2000 season that the Patriots have clipped the century mark in consecutive games. UC finished the game with 17 steals and 25 assists, while shooting 56.6% from the field.
The Patriots will now turn their attention to conference play as they open MSC play on the road at Thomas More. The game is set for November 17 with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
