Bowling Green, KY – The UC men's bowling team competed in the individual Mid-South Conference singles and doubles championships Thursday afternoon. The Patriots placed two in the top-15 and three in the top-20 in the singles championship, while
Charles Wilken and
Austin Montgomery finished seventh overall in the doubles championship.
Robert Borowski had a great day in Bowling Green shooting over 200 in three of his five games. Borowski, a second-team all-conference honoree, finished with a total pinfall of 1103, averaging 220.6 over his five game stretch. His best game came in game five where he bowled a 278, boosting him to an 11
th place singles finish.
Charles Wilken finished just behind his teammate for 12
th after tallying one less pin with a total of 1102. Wilken, who was also named to the MSC second-team, shot over 200 in every game of the day, with an average of 220.4. This is over 20 pins higher than his regular season average. Wilken's had a fantastic game three, with a 268 through ten frames.
Thomas McNeal ended the day in 20
th after a 1046 pinfall in his five games. McNeal, who averaged 193.89 pins per game so far this season, averaged 209.2 on Thursday. His 236 pin count in game four was the highest of the day for the junior.
Austin Montgomery and
Bryce Frantz were the next Patriot finishers in the singles championships, placing 40
th and 47
th. Montgomery ended the day with a pinfall of 965 while Frantz tallied 943.
Liam McNamara totaled 899 pins for a 64
th place finish, while
AJ Warner and
Brandon Salazar post a total of 763 and 700 pins respectively.
Montgomery and Wilken finish seventh overall in the doubles championships. Their total pinfall of 2068 secured this top-ten finish. The duo of Frantz and McNeal placed 14
th in the doubles, edging out the 15
th place finisher by just one pin. They tallied 1989 pins through five games. Borowski and Warner placed 28
th with 1868 pins on the day to round out the Patriots doubles finishers.
The Patriots men's bowling team will return to the lanes Friday morning at 8:30 CT for the start of double-elimination team match play.
