Lawrenceville, GA - For the sixth consecutive match the Patriots women's tennis team breaks out the brooms as they grab the 7-0 victory over #17 Reinhardt. UC moved their record to 7-2 on the season with the third win over a NAIA ranked opponent.
Tomomi Nagao and Mikaela Fros set the tone at #1 doubles as they defeated the Eagles top tandem of Tayla Kruger and Sofia Gualianone 6-1. Meiri Okuwaki and Tessa Gray followed suit in the #2 spot, securing the first point of the match with a 6-1 victory of their own. Johanna Beckmann and Satsuki Mitani finished off doubles on a high note defeating Nicolle Romero and Elise Standing 6-3.
Dominance was the name of the game when the Patriots opened up singles play as they allowed only two points through the first three matches. Nagao was in complete control of her match with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win over Fruger at #1 singles to make it a 2-0 lead for UC. Okuwaki began her match at #2 singles with a 6-0 first set win and finished with a 6-1 victory in the second set to make it 3-0 in favor of Cumberlands.
At #3 singles, Catherine Rae posted her fifth straight sets win with a 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the match for UC as they extended their lead to 4-0. Shiau made it 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #6 singles, while Hana Shimeno followed suit with a 6-3, 6-1 win at #5 singles. Beckmann closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Elise Standing at #4 singles for the 7-0 final.
The Patriots will look to grab their seventh straight win when they take on Midland University on March 5th. Cumberlands' matchup with the Warriors will act as their home opener as UC is set to host Midland at the UC Tennis Complex starting at 1:00 p.m.
