McNeal Shines at Individual USBC Sectionals

Smyrna, TN – The men's bowling team had five bowlers compete at the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championship Sectionals on Friday. To qualify for finals, bowlers must place in the top-six finishers after six games on the day. UC's Thomas McNeal just missed this qualification, as he placed ninth after a great day of bowling.
 
McNeal finished Friday with a pinfall of 1225 through six games. He averaged 204.17 pins per game, and bowled two games over 240. The final game of the day proved best for the junior as he scored a 256. McNeal missed out on qualifying by just 33 pins, as the sixth-place bowler finished the day with 1258.
 
Bryce Frantz and Austin Montgomery were the next Patriot finishers on the day. Frantz placed 70, tallying 1096 pins while Montgomery was just two spots behind in 72 with a pinfall of 1092. Frantz bowled three games over 200, averaged 182.67 pins and had a day-high score of 227 in game three. Montgomery also bowled three games over 200 and averaged 182 pins per contest.
 
Charles Wilken was the fourth Patriot to bowl on Friday, finishing with a 945 pinfall. Wilken bowled two games at 172 as his best perfomances, averaging 157.5 per ten frames. Donavan Steiner rounded out Cumberlands competitors on the day with a pibfall of 872, and a game high 181 score in the fourth game.
 
The Patriots will return to action tomorrow as the team portion of the tournament begins. They will have 32 baker games on Saturday, followed by 32 more on Sunday.
