Charlotte, NC – UC competed in the final day of the Charlotte 49ers Classic on Saturday afternoon, while also sending their racewalkers to Columbia, SC to race in the CIU Rams Invitational. The Patriots 4x800 relay squad had the best performance of the day, as they placed second in their first race of the year.
 
Lauren Sanderson started the relay off with a 2:29.62 split before passing the baton to Cora Stevens. She ran her two laps in 2:33.43 before letting Ashley Terry take over. Terry ran the fastest 800 out of the group with a split of 2:27.77. Lauren McHan ran the final leg for a total time of 9:59.72, 30 seconds faster than the third-place finisher.

Jenna Grogan continued to lead UC's racewalkers this year, as she took a fifth place finish in South Carolina. She paced a 29:07.87 in her first 5k race of the year, the second fastest finish of her career. Isabelle Blatz was the next Patriot finisher on the day, placing eighth with a new best time of 44:36.73.
 
Cumberlands also competed in the 4x400 relay where they took home a top-10 finish. Morgan Bruin and Jaida Reed ran the first two laps for the Patriots. Kathryn Hunter took over for the third leg before passing the baton to Ayani Hinson to finish the race. Hinson ran the fastest split in her heat with a 59.35 400 time, and helped UC earn a ninth-place overall finish.
 
Reed, Hunter, and Bruin also raced in the 200m dash earlier Saturday afternoon. Jaida paced a 26.11 for a new PR. Kathryn finished three spots behind her teammate after crossing finish line in 26.24. Bruin was the final Patriot in this race, sprinting to a 27.13 finish for her personal best time as well.
 
Ashley Terry also raced in the 800 on Saturday where she hit a new personal record. The freshman paced her two laps in 2:27.63. Fellow freshman Lydiah Strauel also ran in this event, finishing in 2:33.14.
 
The Patriots found some success in the field events as well. Lydia Le'Det posted a tenth-place finish in the triple jump. Her 10.89m leap was the furthest of the year so far, and just 0.03m off her career best jump.
 
Delores Stevenson was the lone Patriot competing in the shot put on Saturday. Stevenson hurled the shot 10.97m for 16^th. Mikkah Siler and Trinity Sherrod rounded out UC's competitors in North Carolina, as they threw in the javelin. Siler launched her javelin 24.40m while Sherrod reached a distance of 18.92m.
 
Cumberlands will return to the track next weekend as they travel to Atlanta, GA for the Emory Spring Break Classic. Events are set to begin the morning of Friday, March 25^th.
