Williamsburg, KY - A strong start to the new week with a sweep of Austin Peay was followed up by another breakout of the brooms by UC's men's tennis program as they defeated Freed-Hardeman in sweeping fashion, winning 7-0 to move to 13-4 on the season.
Doubles play was the definition of dominant for Cumberlands as they managed to win all three of their matchups without giving up a point. Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub played at #1 with Luis Montull and Mattis Le Montagner following at the #2 spot while Martin Muller and Hung-Ju Wu rounded things out at #3. It didn't matter which one of UC's tandems was on the court as they all were in complete control against the opposition with all three garnering flawless 6-0 wins to give the Patriots the first point.
Muller made it a 2-0 lead for UC quickly at the #3 spot once singles play began with him grabbing a win in which he gave up only one point the entire way. Martin conceded one point in the first set, winning 6-1 before pitching the shutout in the second in the 6-0 win. Barbier followed behind him at #1 with a strong victory of his own to expand Cumberlands' lead even further. Much like Muller's matchup, Barbier was in complete control and allowed his Lion opponent very few chances, taking the 6-1, 6-1 win.
Mattis Le Montagner was next to finish with him playing at the Patriot's #3 during the contest. He did about as well as his teammates as he kept the ball rolling on UC's way to claiming the win as Le Montagner's victory made it a 4-0 tally. Mattis had very little trouble in the first stanza, winning 6-3 before dominating in the second by a count of 6-1. Luis Montull was next to bring his afternoon to an end for UC with him in the #4 spot for the Patriots as he came out victorious in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
Hung-Ju Wu and Christian de la Fuente Nodado were the final two to finish for Cumberlands with their performances being ones that helped end the match on a high note. Wu played absolutely flawless at the #6 spot for the Patriots with him unwilling to give up a point in the 6-0, 6-0 win. Nodado was last to finish for UC with him putting up a very solid showing himself with Christian grabbing the 6-3, 6-0 win to complete UC's second straight sweep and their sixth in their last seven matches.
The Patriots will not have to wait long before their next opportunity to hit the courts as they're set to play again Saturday. UC will once again be home for that match as they are set to host the Bethel Wildcats in that one with things set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
