Williamsburg, KY - Cumberlands claimed another win Saturday afternoon in their matchup with the Midland University Warriors via the sweep. The Patriots broke out the brooms in their weekend opener, defeating Midland 7-0 to move to 8-3 on the season.
Doubles play belonged to UC with them winning all three matchups handedly. Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub got things going for Cumberlands as the team's top tandem, winning 6-1. Luis Montull and Mattis Le Montagner followed behind with a win of their in the #2 spot with the Patriots defeating Midland's duo of Jeremy Attrill and Miguel Abete 6-3 to clinch the win. Martin Muller and Hung-Ju Wu finished things off on a high note with their own victory, winning 6-3.
Barbier's play in singles was just as good as his efforts next to Banoub as Martin grabbed the win in the #1 spot for UC in dominant fashion by a final count of 6-2, 6-1. Le Montagner followed suit with a win of his own to make it a 3-0 lead for UC with Mattis winning 6-1, 6-1.
Martin Muller clinched the match for Cumberlands in the #3 spot with a real fight of a victory. After falling to Midland's Luca Struffi in the first set, Muller bounced back to with the second by a tally of 6-4, setting up a third stanza. The deciding canto ended up belonging to Muller with him coming out on top 6-3 to give UC a 4-0 lead.
Luis Montull kept the ball rolling and made it a 5-0 advantage for the Patriots with his 6-4, 6-2 win at the #4 spot. He was followed by Christian de la Fuente Nodado at #5 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory while Hung-Ju Wu finished off the contest for Cumberlands with a convincing 6-0, 6-4 win himself.
The Patriots have been on top of their game of late, winning four of the last four matches with each of their victories coming via the sweep. They'll look to continue their winning ways tomorrow when they take on the University of Pikeville in the Mid-South Conference opener. That game will be played at Pikeville with a start time of 3:00 p.m.
