McHan Qualifies for Nationals at Washington University Distance Carnival

St. Louis, MO – The Patriots took three runners to the Washington University Distance Carnival on Friday. This meet held only three events, the 5k, 10k, and 3k steeplechase. UC had a runner in each event, with Senior Lauren McHan becoming the first Patriot on the women's side to post a national qualifying finish this outdoor season.
 
McHan was the lone Cumberland competitor in the steeplechase on Friday. She ran the fastest steeple race in her five-year career with a 11:17.16 finishing time. This hit an "A" standard and qualified her for NAIA Nationals later this year. This is McHan's second straight year qualifying in the steeplechase event.
 
Taylor Warren raced in the 10k for the first time in her collegiate career. Warren paced her 25 laps around the track in 40:17.69 for a 38th place finish overall. Meredith Elstun rounded out UC's runners on the day as she raced in the 5k for the first time this season. Elstun crossed the finish line in 19:58.40, good for 21st in the second heat.

The Patriots will return to the track next weekend at home as they are set to host the Pepsi UC Invitational and Distance Carnival.
