#12 Men’s Tennis Breaks Out Brooms Against Tigers

Bowling Green, Ky - UC's first matchup of the MSC Tournament went according to plan as they were able to get the win over Georgetown. After getting the bye in the first round of action, UC and the Tigers met for a quarterfinals contest Friday afternoon at Buchanon Park. Cumberlands defeated Georgetown a week ago via the sweep in their regular season finale and was able to grab another one to open postseason play, winning 4-0.

Doubles play saw UC jump out and grab their first point of the match with the Patriots taking two straight bouts. Cumberlands' #2 tandem of Mattis Le Montagner and Luis Montull were first to finish with them taking care of the their Tiger counterpart by a tally of 6-3. Martin Muller and Hung-Ju Wu were next in line to finish, playing out of the #3 spot with their win clinching the first point. Muller and Wu's match looked much like their teammates with UC's #3 team also winning 6-3 to make it a 1-0 game.

Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub found themselves in a tough fight at #1 as they were tied with Georgetown's top team 5-5 before it was called due to the doubles point being clinched.

Le Montagner picked up right where he left off when singles began with him playing out of the #2 spot solo. The Frenchman had very few problems with his matchup as he was able to win in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to make it a 2-0 lead for UC. He was followed by Christian de la Fuente Nodado who played as the Patriot's #4 and made it 3-0 advantage for UC. Nodado was dominant in his first set, winning 6-0 before having a little of a tougher time in the second but ultimately winning 6-3.

Hung-Ju Wu wrapped things up for UC with him coming away with the 6-1, 6-1 win to clinch the 4-0 sweep. Wu played as UC's #6 and did his part in helping secure the win. Hung-Ju has been extremely strong out of the #6 spot for the Patriots this season and that continued in this one with him garnering the 6-1, 6-1 win to give Cumberlands the sweep.

UC saw three of their singles matches go unfinished with all three of them presenting positives for the Patriots. All three of the contests that were called before completing ended up seeing wins for Cumberlands as Martin Barbier won his first set 7-6 at #1 while Martin Muller won his first stanza 6-4 out of the #3 spot with Luis Montull's match at #5 also going unfinished with him winning his first canto 6-3 and leading 2-1 in the second before being called.

The Patriots will return to action tomorrow as they're set to take on UT Southern in the semifinals Saturday evening. UC saw the Firehawks on April 7th, coming away with the 4-0 sweep and will look for similar results this time around with the two teams set to square off at Buchanon Park at 6:00 p.m.CT.
